Welcome to Service by Design
Birmingham City University has developed a new methodology of engagement with external organisations in all sectors to improve their effectiveness and maximise opportunities called Service by Design.
Birmingham City University has developed Innovation Mentors including experts from a broad range of fields and backgrounds working closely with external organisations. Mentors are paired from different disciplines but including one with sector specific knowledge to work with an organisation.
Academics gain through improving their skills and confidence in external engagement through application of these techniques. They apply their expereinces to their teaching and research.
Key opportunities in the organisations are identified by the Innovation Mentors through: structured interviews, analyses of customer experience and the organisation's capabilities and structured brainstorming. Feedback and recommendations are fed back in a report to the organisation. The aim is to develop a strategic, mutually beneficial relationship.
Through its work Service by Design will bridge the gap between what organisations do and what people need.
